Believe it or not, at the end of December 2008, nearly 1,023,000 unclaimed balances, worth a total of about $ 351 million were recorded in the records of the Bank of Canada. More than 93.5% of these were less than $ 1 000, representing 31.7% of the total value. The oldest balance dates from 1900.
