SEATTLE (Reuters) - Adobe Systems on Tuesday announced a 54% increase in earnings in the second quarter and confirmed its objective of growth in sales thanks to strong demand for its software in spite of depressed economic conditions and problems suffered by Japan, one of its biggest markets.
The action Designer Flash, Acrobat and Photoshop, however, fell by 1.6% in after-hours trading, to 31.50 dollars.
The leading design software has reported a net profit of 229.4 million dollars, or 45 cents a share, from 148.6 million (28 cents) a year earlier.
Excluding items, earnings per share were 55 cents, while the Thomson Reuters consensus I / B / E / S gave 51 cents.
Revenues increased 9% to $ 1.02 billion (consensus: 994.8 million).
Adobe had warned in March that sales would be reduced during the quarter due to disruptions caused by the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan on March 11. Japan accounted for 13% of sales of Oracle during the last fiscal year.
Adobe nevertheless confirmed its target of a 10% increase in sales of the current fiscal year, which ends in early December.
The current quarter, it expects EPS of 50-56 cents, excluding items, according to the consensus that gives 54 cents. It provides a CA with a $ 1.05 billion, again according to a consensus which is 1.02 billion.
